The Lone Tree paintings are of a solitary ponderosa pine, known as "Lone Tree," at the junction of Two Trails Road and Old Las Vegas Highway just east of Santa Fe, NM. It's a big tree with muscular branches and a thick trunk that smells of vanilla and butterscotch. It's also a geo-cache and, according to an old-timer who chatted me up while I was painting one day, was formerly home to an eagle. During my time in Santa Fe, it became a powerful presence and a welcome sight, a meeting place, and a creative inspiration.
